Warrington Colescott has long been esteemed among printmakers, not only for his technical ability, but also for his landmark satirical portfolio entitled, "History of Printmaking" (1975 - 78). In this portfolio Colescott satirized the so-called masters of the print medium; his work has been compared with William Hogarth and James Gillray. In several series since then, Colescott has taken aim at the lifestyles of the residents of his native California, as well as the FBI and the State Department. There are eight Colescott prints in the collection at the Sweeney Art Gallery.
