Mapping the Desert/Deserting the Map

The University of California Institute for Research in the Arts (UCIRA) and the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Graduate Center, together with the UC Santa Barbara Interdisciplinary Humanities Center and Arts Research Initiative proposed to convene a workshop to be led by international eco-arts group, Luminous Green in collaboration with UC arts faculty and grad students at the Boyd Deep Canyon Reserve, February 13-16, 2009. The residency formed the center-piece of a series of workshops organized over an intensive week long period by visiting arts group, Luminous Green at UC Riverside's Palm Desert Graduate Center and on the UC Santa Barbara campus. It brought together, in addition to the 3 visiting artists, 2 UCIRA staff members, 2 non-UC artists (Deena Capparelli and Lisa Tucker), approximately 15 students and 7 faculty members from the following campuses: UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UC San Diego.
