| Amy Maloof
Amy Maloof’s contribution to the Sweeney exhibition consists of approximately ten photographed landscape images displayed at a ninety-degree rotation. Also featured in the gallery is Maloof’s homemade American flag containing a mixture of fabric and alternative messages, which complicate the flag’s traditional associations within American culture. The photographic installation, titled Two Car Garage, is immediately noticeable for its obvious beauty and compelling physical imagery. The landscapes captured within the photographs consist of snow-capped mountain ranges, wild flowers, glimmering lakes and vibrant forest scenery. Yet the traditional beauty of each image is disrupted by the physical presentation of the photographs, all of which are deliberately hung sideways. According to tradition, the photographs are displayed askew, yet ironically, this placement highlights the perfect and aesthetically pleasing symmetry captured within the frame. - DH |
