Basque-ing Through Song: A Musical Evening with NOKA

Thursday, October 13, 2016, 7pm - 8pm

NOKA is a Basque-American trio from Chino, CA, that focuses on traditional and original songs about Basque culture, identity and gender (www.ilovenoka.com). Founded in 1997, we have recorded three collections of songs, which increasingly include songs we have written or arranged ourselves. Our latest compilation, "Bi Ahizpak," ("Two Sisters") is a collaboration with Mikel Markez, a singer-songwriter from the Basque Country with a career spanning over 25 years. Our musical evening will entail a concert of songs from our latest CDs to give the audience a taste of traditional and contemporary Basque and Basque-American music. We will supplement this with a multimedia bilingual presentation about Basque language, culture and history.

Support has been provided by UCR College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the City of Riverside.
